Have you ever wondered how celebrities always look so great even when they are photographed supposedly without makeup? The answer is permanent makeup or micropigmentation. This permanent makeup service can be done anywhere on the body; however, it is commonly done on the face, enhancing eyebrows and eyes.
Permanent Makeup Service: Micropigmentation
Micropigmentation is also known as micro-pigment implantation or permanent cosmetics. This cosmetic procedure emphasizes eyelashes and eyebrows, highlights lip contours, makes lips look fuller, and improves hairline reconstruction. It can also camouflage scars and correct uneven pigmentation.
History of Micropigmentation
You may think that micropigmentation is something new, but that’s incorrect. Tattooing has been around for thousands of years, but permanent makeup treatment began in the early 1900s, and its popularity has ebbed and flowed ever since.
Who are Good Candidates?
Micropigmentation can work for everyone and all skin complexions. It can enhance or hide specific features. It is an excellent option for augmenting and defining thin, light, or sparse eyebrows. Camouflaging scars and other skin imperfections is another use. Permanent lip liner and eyeliner create a more polished look without applying makeup every morning.
How Is Micropigmentation Done?
The procedure is similar to a tattoo, yet the techniques, tools, and pigments are specific to micropigmentation. A technician uses a pen-like device with a hollow, vibrating needle. When the needle penetrates the skin, a drop of ink is released beneath the skin. This process is repeated until the desired result is achieved. Depending on what is being done, the process takes 30 minutes to two hours for one session. Sometimes multiple sessions are needed to achieve the desired results.
Post Procedure Care and Follow Up
There is usually some redness and mild swelling up to 24 hours after the procedure. The treated area should be kept clean, and no makeup applied for several days. It takes 4-7 days for complete healing, during which swimming should be avoided.
Although permanent, the coloring may fade after some time (3-7 years) and may need to be refreshed.
Are There Any Side Effects?
Micropigmentation is an entirely safe procedure when done by a trained, reputable technician. Some people may experience side effects, including:
- Redness
- Slight swelling
- Rash and Itching
- Infection
- Swollen Lymph Nodes
- Allergic Reaction
If you experience any severe side effects, consult your physician.
